A
Brief Information about the Village of Ghasri.
Ghasri is one of
the smallest villages on the island of Gozo, found on
a plain of clayish and oily land between the hills of
Ta’ Ghammar, Ta’ Abram, and Ta’ Kuljat.
It is situated on the western part of Gozo. From the
hill Ta’ Ghammar, one can see very pleasant breathtaking
scenes. The village of Ghasri is peacefully secluded
away from the hectic and chaotic life of today. This
village probably got this Arabic name since people used
to squeeze olives to extract its liquid essence.
The village is dominated by a lighthouse
on Gordan Hill. The beam of this lighthouse can be seen
for about 50 kilometers away. This lighthouse was the
very first ever built in Gozo. On top of this hill,
one can admire the impressive scene of the north coast,
some other hills and various valleys.
The parish church of Ghasri is dedicated
to Christ the Saviour (Corpus Christi) in the Eucharist.
It was constructed early in the twentieth century. Other
chapels which are also found in this peaceful village
St. Publius Chapel, and another rural chapel, dedicated
to the Patronage of the Holy Mary, which is to be found
on the road to Wied l-Ghasri.
Wied l-Ghasri can be reached from the
village square of Ghasri. It ends in a very picturesque
and striking coast that enchants every visitor. The
coast from Wied l-Ghasri goes on to Marsalforn. |
